- I am still alive.
- This episode of “Planning for Purnell” is going to be a little different, so prepare yourself. Rather than talking through how we’re preparing for our big day, I’ll be discussing how we’re preparing for our big, long, adventurous life together. Sorry to disappoint. Well, sort of sorry. Mostly not sorry, because it’s way more important to prepare for a marriage than it is for a wedding (as I’m starting to realize.)
The past few months have been spent attending 4 weddings, 2 wedding showers (one of my own!), a bachelorette party, some freelance work, a huge work project, and planning my own big day! Oof. Sometimes it’s hard to keep my head above water. It’s easy to lose sight of why I do all of these things. Is it so I can throw a really fun party? Or so I can have the “wedding of my dreams”? Is it worth it? Sometimes I wonder.
Ben is great about reminding me of this. When I get so stressed about not having matching envelopes & RSVP cards, or I want to cry because I literally cannot hand write 150 envelopes, he is the voice of reason, talking me down to reality, that really, people will not care about the envelopes. (But let’s be real, I still do.)
Truthfully, I was convicted the other day that I was spending way more time preparing for my wedding, than I was for my marriage. I was more worried about a 12 hour day, than I was about a 50-year commitment. What is wrong with me?! So to counteract this, Ben and I have been starting a new habit of praying together every night before bed, over our marriage, our friends, our decisions. We also spent some time reading Tim Keller’s Meaning of Marriage book on our way to a wedding last weekend. There’s so much I could say about this book, but I’ll leave it at this- EVERYONE should read it, no matter if you're single, dating, engaged or married, read it. It’s not just a bunch of marriage advice or self-help book. It truly walks through what marriage is, the purpose of it, and its importance. And I don’t mean marriage just in the common man-woman sense, but also in the sense of the Church and Christ. What is marriage between the two? Read it people, it’s great. Plus, it’s like 12 bucks on Amazon.
#80 days :D
